Why Montessori Elementary Schools are Learning Influencers

Like all parents, you want the best for your child’s education. Education is a vital part of their development, because it sets them up for lifelong success. If your child is about to transition from preschool to elementary school, and you’re researching their options, you should add a Montessori elementary school to your search.

Montessori schools offer the unique structure of child-driven education, preparing your child for a lifelong appreciation of learning.

Building a strong foundation

A key focus of the Montessori philosophy is showing students that their innate curiosity should guide their exploration of the world. Instead of following the rigid structures of traditional schools, Montessori classes are structured to show students the power of choice, another key focus. Students aren’t told how to learn. They’re encouraged to discover on their own, and choose how they want to learn curriculum.

By providing safe child-driven spaces to learn, Montessori schools help students develop strong skills for future learning. Students finish the day excited to return to school, because they associate learning with a self-fulfilling purpose, which drives them to seek out and absorb more knowledge.

Children inspire their own learning

The Montessori emphasis on self-guided learning gives students a sense of self, identity, and independence that is lacking in traditional schools. Students don’t have to wait for the teacher to give assignment instructions, or follow strict rules about what they can do. They’re given freedom of movement and thought, with the teacher acting as a coach.

For example, a student who likes organizing with charts might create a task chart of curriculum topics. They might begin with the topic most interesting to them at the time, record their findings in a notebook, and when finished, revisit the chart for the next topic. A student who prefers visual-learning might opt for worksheets, while a student who prefers hands-on learning might use props to understand concepts.

Regardless of their preferred learning style, students will learn how to manage their time, plan out and do projects, and prioritize the topics they’d like to learn, all on their own or with self-sought assistance.

A strong foundation for inspired learning

Montessori teachers are trained to recognize and understand how each student learns, and to help develop long lasting foundations. Students who grow up in Montessori schools have the confidence to transition to traditional schools, because of their proven self-reliance and nurtured love of learning.

Montessori students also know how to self-assess and self-correct without teacher guidance, so they can confidently approach new material and exams. They trust in their own decisions because as the Montessori method has shown, they learn best when they motive themselves.
